These museums are all within walking distance of each other. In addition, Farmer's Market and The Grove are only a short bus ride from here.
La Brea Tar Pits and George Page Museum - These two attractions must be visited together in order to gain something from your trip to this Westside location. This place is fascinating. Here, you'll see bones of large, extinct animals that were pulled from the pits, including a giant wooly mammoth skeleton. Paleontologists work on the premises and visitors can watch their progress through the glass. Generally closes around 5 PM.

Petersen Automotive Museum - West LA - Automotive themes and exhibits. Hot rods, celebrity automobiles, land-speed record cars, motorcycles, artwork and sculpture can be found.
Getting there: From LAX, a bus ride takes 60-90 minutes each way (including transfers).

(Petersen Automotive Museum is nearest the bus stop. LACMA is across the street and half a block east (3 minute walk). La Brea Tar Pits is on the same side as LACMA, a half block further from the bus stop than LACMA (5 minute walk). LACMA is easy to see from the bus stop.

Farmer's Market / The Grove A bus ride takes about 5 minutes from Wilshire & Fairfax. From LACMA, walk to the bus stop on Fairfax (do not cross Fairfax). Take the MTA bus 217 heading north. Get off at Fairfax and 3rd Street. You'll see Farmer's Market. Walk through the market to get to The Grove.
Time estimate: To view the exhibits at the museum give yourself around 4-5 hours, plus travel time. So you will realistically need at least a 7 hour layover for this excursion. If you go to Farmer's Market and The Grove you will need another one to three hours. Don't forget to allow an additional hour to get through security and walking through the terminal at LAX.
